Central Minnesota irrigators can share ideas for agricultural policies, programs and funding through September 18.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is asking farmers, agricultural businesses and others involved in the state’s food and agriculture systems to help shape its priorities for the 2027 legislative session.
This is an opportunity for Central Minnesota irrigators to share ideas and firsthand experiences related to the policies, programs and investments that affect their farms. Topics could include water management, irrigation technology, conservation, research, agricultural infrastructure and other needs affecting irrigated agriculture.
Submit ideas online
The MDA’s online input portal is open through September 18, 2026. Participants can submit a policy, funding or program proposal and explain why it should be considered.
Information submitted through the portal is considered public data under Minnesota law.

The MDA will also host two free virtual public input sessions on Zoom. Registration is required.

Share the perspective of irrigated agriculture
The next Minnesota legislative session begins January 12, 2027, and will determine the state’s budget for the following two years. That budget includes funding for the MDA and other agricultural programs and activities.
Central Minnesota Irrigators encourages area producers to take advantage of this opportunity. Sharing practical experiences from the farm can help state leaders better understand the challenges, needs and opportunities facing irrigated agriculture in Central Minnesota.
The MDA will review and consider every submission, although not every idea can be included in its final legislative proposals.
